Richard Robinson

UX & Visual Designer // Front-End Developer

My name is Richard Robert Robinson (my parents loved alliteration.) I'm a designer who believes that design without research is just decoration.

I build beautiful, powerful mobile and web applications with the user's needs in mind.

Who the Heck is Richard Robinson?

I've always been a bit of a nerd. As a kid, if I wasn't running around dressed up as one of my favorite superheroes or up in my room with my nose in a book, I was sketching, doodling or drawing. I always wanted to be making stuff.

After getting my BFA in Visual Design from UMASS Dartmouth, I moved down South to Charlotte, NC and began working for Red Ventures, a large Internet marketing company where I designed email campaigns, landing pages and full websites. There, I learned about A / B split testing and optimizing experiences to achieve a result.

Armed with this knowledge, I transitioned into more of a product design role while working for an online stock and options broker. I was able to help them design, build and optimize their online stock trading platform by conducting user interviews and tests.

Currently, I am an Interaction Designer at Skookum Digital Works where I help various clients find software solutions for their business needs. I conduct interviews, build wireframes and style guides, perform user tests and create mockups. I've also helped to grow our design team and have mentored junior designers.

I try to stay active in the Charlotte tech community, too. I've spoken several times at CLT/UX, SDW's Friday Tech Talks, as well as Ignite Charlotte, and BlendConf. I've even been interviewed on The East Wing podcast with Tim Smith. You can check out slides from some of my talks on Speaker Deck.
